Uppercase Handwriting Program: Taught by Stroke Order, Not A–Z

What Is the Wynter Uppercase Handwriting Program?

The Wynter Uppercase Handwriting Program teaches uppercase letters in the order a child’s motor skills are ready for them, not alphabetically. I built it after years as a school-based OT, watching kids get handed letters out of developmental order, before the foundational strokes underneath handwriting were ever addressed.

Why Letter Order Matters More Than the Alphabet

Handwriting shows up everywhere in a school day. Kids use it to write their name and the date, work through a math problem, fill in a worksheet answer, and build full sentences and paragraphs. It runs underneath nearly everything else a child does at a desk.

The Foundation: Prewriting Strokes and Developmental Sequencing

Prewriting strokes are the foundation underneath all of it, and they follow their own developmental order. Vertical strokes come first. More advanced strokes develop later. The Wynter Uppercase Handwriting Program is built directly on that sequence.

What’s Included in the Program

The program includes sensorimotor activities, letter formation practice, and self-evaluation of handwriting, all evidence-informed interventions.

Where to Find It

It’s part of the Wynter OT Resources annual subscription, right alongside the rest of the prewriting and handwriting resources built the same way. Take a look.
